For most of us, bereavement will be the most intense and distressing experience we will ever face. Everyone experiences grief differently and there is no ‘normal’ or ‘right’ way to grieve. It is a natural process to go through but sometimes feelings of guilt, anger or even relief can be hard to come to terms with and that is when counselling may help.
Pain is not just felt in the body, it also affects how people feel emotionally. Long term or chronic pain can induce depression, hopelessness and negative thoughts. People can experience many losses because of pain, for example jobs, finances and home life, which can also lead to loss of confidence and low self-esteem. Pain can take over your life, disrupting sleep, making you bad tempered and memory and concentration poor.
