I am a Humanistic EMDR therapist with offices in both Godalming and Guildford in Surrey where I offer a confidential place for you to explore your personal issues. I work individually with adults of all ages both with EMDR and talk therapy.
I work in the here-and-now exploring with you what is affecting your life today and looking at how you might be able to change some things to improve your well-being. Sometimes it is useful to look at how past experiences might be affecting your life at present, although it is not always necessary to look into the past. I believe that self-awareness is key to understanding oneself and I work with this in mind. I approach my work with curiosity and believe that an honest, open and trusting relationship will enable the development of self-awareness through our work together.
EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) focuses on how a person’s earlier traumatic experiences can influence their day-to-day life regarding how they feel both physically and mentally. Physical ailments can also be linked to adverse experiences. Trauma can be any event that has a lasting negative effect upon someone. EMDR therapy helps clients unlock and process traumatic memories by using the Adaptive Information Processing model (AIP) where we would be looking at what happened to you in the past. This can help clients heal from emotional/physical trauma from disturbing experiences in life. There is a lot of EMDR information online including YouTube demonstrations. EMDR is not used for all clients with talk therapy being the alternative option. I will be guided by my clients.
I also have experience of working with young adults having worked in the Counselling Department of a London University for six years.
