Kirsty Bunce

I have had over 10 years’ experience as a therapist, and my belief is that most people can benefit from having some counselling, from being with someone who truly listens to your unique experience, understands it and helps you to understand it too.

There may be lots of reasons why you are considering counselling at this time, you might be facing difficulties and worries in your emotional life, be feeling distressed and needing help with a specific issue, struggling to come to terms with a traumatic event or loss, or perhaps seeking a clearer perspective on your life, on making choices and on how to move towards a more positive future.

As your therapist I would never assume to be more expert on you than you are, yet at times it can be difficult to understand our own thought processes, responses and patterns.

I believe all people have the capacity and resources to grow and change. As an active and participative listener, and by offering gentle and respectful challenges I aim to help promote a better understanding of self, new perspectives, and life changes.

I have experience gained in:

  • Private practice
  • GP surgeries
  • Oasis (addictions)
  • Schools
  • Rape Crisis (Domestic violence and abuse)
  • EAP (work place counselling)

I have successfully worked with clients suffering from the following:

Relationship breakdown, Bereavement, PTSD, Addictions, Historic abuse, Domestic violence, Illness, Anxiety, Depression, Panic, Eating disorders, Self-harming, Low self esteem, Work issues, Stress, Family issues, PND, Relationship difficulties, Personal Development, Chronic illness, Sexual issues, Anger, Stress, Trauma, OCD, Loss

I work in an integrative way, combining the relational principles of the person centred theory, with the psycho-education and challenges of CBT principles.

My role is not to advise you or push you into a particular course of action, or to judge you in any way.  Instead I will support you with the problems you are facing, help you identify the right course of action for you, help you develop a better understanding of yourself and others, and a better ability to manage stress and anxiety.

Additional Information

At your first session you will be given information about session length and frequency, confidentiality and cancellation policy.

You will also be given information about what I can offer you as your therapist, and be asked about what you would like to get from therapy, your hopes, your goals and perhaps your fears.

During sessions you will be encouraged to explore the problems you are struggling with, and express your associated thoughts and feelings.

Your counselling process and your experience of counselling will be unique to you, and will be dependent on your own aims for the sessions, and the commitment you make to this sometimes painful, but extremely rewarding process.
