Sarah Child

Everyday life can be full of ups and downs. Sometimes we can cope but sometimes it can be helpful to seek support to help restore some balance and enable us to live a full and harmonious life.

Counselling can provide a safe and confidential space, within a supportive relationship, for you to talk through any issues or challenges that you may be experiencing. A counsellor will not give advice or offer the answers to your problems but will remain alongside you and help you find your own way forward. Sometimes simply being listened to and unconditionally accepted is empowering enough for positive changes to take place.

Experience:

I have experience working with a range of issues that include depression, anxiety, loss and bereavement, self-harm, stress, relationship issues, abuse, low self-esteem and self confidence. My experience has been developed from working with Bereaved/Pre- Bereaved clients at Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham, to working with the Youth Counselling Service in Guildford (NHS/Virgin Care).

Approach:

I work from the Humanistic Approach to Counselling. I believe we all have the ability to achieve our full potential and trust that such potential comes from within. My aim is to provide a reparative relationship built upon trust, openness and honesty. I accept my clients for who they are without judgement, as equals and can offer an empathic understanding and a genuine response.

My client work is based upon what is happening in the present, however, past and previous relationships clearly affect our present so these are explored as they arise. I take the lead from my client and work at their pace, gently challenging when appropriate to facilitate different perspectives and to increase self awareness.

I understand that counselling can be a daunting prospect and offer a very human approach, doing my upmost to create an environment where my client feels comfortable and at ease.
