Individual and Couple Psychodynamic Psychotherapist; MBAPC; BPC

I am an experienced psychodynamic psychotherapist working with individuals and couples. I see adults and couples of all ages who may be feeling in a state of crisis, need help in some area of their lives or who might feel they have lost a sense of direction. It may be that a past trauma has resurfaced or that there are longstanding issues and behaviours that lead to a feeling of being stuck. I see adults from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures and welcome all enquires.

Couple Psychotherapy

You and your partner may be feeling disillusioned or unhappy in some way with your relationship. There may frequent rows, a loss of sexual desire, or a general feeling of having lost touch with one another. There may have been a precipitating event, such as an affair, which has brought difficulties into the open, and which may have come as a shock to one of you, or the source of your unhappiness may feel harder to pin down. You are likely to each be feeling misunderstood by the other and to find it hard to see your partner’s point of view, believing them to be in the wrong.

Discussing your difficulties in therapy can help each partner to begin to hear the other again and this often leads couples to reconnect and to rediscover the joy in their relationship or to find it for the first time. Therapy can help you to reassess your relationship and what you want from it. You may decide to stay together or to separate. Either way you should be able to make this decision with an increased understanding of yourself and of your partner.

The psychodynamic approach is non-judgmental and helps couples to understand how their own individual histories and the history of their relationship have brought them to this point. In this process couples often find they uncover thoughts and feeling about the other and about the relationship that they were unaware of, giving them a new perspective.

Some of the reasons that couples come to therapy.

– Bereavement or financial loss.
– Loss of desire or other sexual difficulties.
– One or both partners having an affair.
– Issues around starting a family and parenting..
– Dealing with separateness and difference.
– Illness and/or depression of one partner.
– Co-parenting
– Separation and divorce.
– Issues around children leaving home or around retirement.
– Wanting to improve a particular area of the relationship

Individual Therapy

I have wide-ranging experience of working with adults of all ages from diverse backgrounds and cultures. I aim to build a trusting relationship in which the difficulties you bring can be explored in a non-judgmental setting. Together we will look at your current issues in the light of your past experiences and relationships, so that connections begin to be made. A greater understanding of some of your unconscious thoughts and feelings can help you to feel less stuck and to increase your compassion for yourself and for others in your life.

Some of the issues that people bring to individual therapy include:
– Anxiety and/or depression.
– Relationship issues, issues around sex.
– Childhood or more recent trauma.
– Lack of confidence.
– Loneliness.
– Bereavement.
– Dealing with illness, either your own or of someone close to you.
– Feeling generally dissatisfied or stuck
