Dr Tanya Corker

I am an experienced clinical psychologist with over 10 years’ experience of working in the NHS.

Experience:

I have been working in a community mental health recovery service in the NHS for 3 years, providing therapy for people with severe and enduring mental health problems. I have extensive experience of working with a wide variety of psychological difficulties including anxiety disorders (including OCD, panic attacks and phobias), depression, trauma, personality disorders, psychosis and bi polar affective disorder.

Alongside individual work, I am also experienced in group work, teaching, training, supervision and consultation.

Approach:

I draw upon a range of therapeutic models according to an individual’s difficulties, what they wish to focus on or what they would like to change.  I offer a period of initial assessment which explores current difficulties and considers contextual and background factors which may be influencing these current issues. I then use a formulation to draw together all the information from the assessment and provide a framework to understand how difficulties may have developed and how they are being maintained.  From the formulation, it often becomes clear as to the model of therapeutic intervention that may be most helpful. I work integratively according to the needs of the client, drawing from psychological models such as CBT, systemic and psychodynamic psychotherapy. I also have a further accreditation in Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). This is a structured therapy which primarily focuses on the way our relationships affect us and also how other mental health difficulties can affect our relationships
